If you yearn for the serenity of the wide blue sea and the charm of sleepy islands, then you’ll love Kvarner Bay too.The mythical Absyrthian islands (Rab, Krk, Cres and Lošinj)are thought to be part of the legend of Jason and the Argonauts. I was overwhelmed by the epic bora-bleached cliffs, coves and inlets that contrast against the brilliant turquoise sea. I was enchanted by the small sunbathed towns with stone-built houses and I was intoxicated by the heady fragrances of lavender, sage, myrtle and umbrella pines. It’s amazing to think this region is the habitat for over 2700 species of amazing flora and the home to countless species of indigenus wildlife. Strolling around these unique islands we were delighted by both its stunning natural beauty and its rich cultural and historical heritage, around every corner there was something amazing to see. Like the famous Baška Plaque – a carved stone monument that dates back to the year 1100AD. Climbing to the peaks of these beautiful islands’ cliffs we were rewarded with a view of rare griffons, and below in the crystal clear waters we were lucky enough to witness the magical site of dolphins and monk seals at play.We finished our magical journey with a couple of days on the Crikvenica-Vinodol Riviera famed for the purity of its air – which, in 1906, was officially declared a climatic health resort. We stayed at the wonderful Therapia Spa Hotel where relaxation was the order of the day. We left Croatia with our mind, body and soul fully recharged and can’t wait until next summer for another legendary holiday.
